Jussie Smollett‘s team is speaking out.
Following the news that the 36-year-old Empire actor was charged with filing a false police report in Chicago, his legal team is responding with a statement issued to People on Wednesday night (February 20).

“Like any other citizen, Mr. Smollett enjoys the presumption of innocence, particularly when there has been an investigation like this one where information, both true and false, has been repeatedly leaked. Given these circumstances, we intend to conduct a thorough investigation and to mount an aggressive defense,” his attorneys, Todd Pugh and Victor Henderson, said.
The news comes shortly after a police spokesman confirmed that Jussie is now being classified as a suspect following the investigation into his alleged assault in Chicago.
