TV producer Greg Berlanti poses for a photo with his husband Robbie Rogers while attending the Barbara Berlanti Heroes Gala Benefitting F Cancer on Saturday (October 13) at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, Calif.
Greg and Robbie were the chairmen of the gala, which was held in the memory of Greg‘s late mom Barbara, who passed away from lung cancer last year.
“She would love that the word f–k was associated with her first gala,” Greg said during his touching speech that night. “She was glamorous, but she was a tough broad born in the Bronx and was certainly no stranger to throwing around the F-bomb. F–k was a little bit like her ‘Aloha’ in our house.”
Greg is the executive producer behind so many hit shows including Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, Riverdale, Legends of Tomorrow, Blindspot, Black Lightening, and past favorites like Brothers & Sisters, Political Animals, Eli Stone, Dirty Sexy Money, and more. He talked about his mother’s support for his career during his speech.
“She once told me Time magazine could go f–k themelves and I hadn’t even read the review yet. I assumed it was not good,” he said.
When talking about the organization F Cancer, Greg said that his mom knew “about this organization before she was even sick and really held it in high esteem. As awful and horrible as cancer was to her, it can end someone’s life, but it couldn’t rob them of what they had achieved in their lifetime. All the people that they had touched, or the legacy they would leave behind.”
Greg donated an additional $35,000 during the event to fund a campaign in memory of his mother. You can donate now at LetsFCancer.com!
