Wyatt Pike, a contestant in the Top 16 of American Idol‘s current season, has unexpectedly dropped out of the show.
The news was announced by host Ryan Seacrest at the top of Monday night’s episode, during which the Top 12 singers are being revealed.
“Before we get to the results, I have to tell you that finalist Wyatt Pike will not be competing in the competition. He had to drop out, but we wish him the very best,” Ryan said. No other details were revealed during the show.
The Top 16 singers, including Wyatt, performed on Sunday night’s episode, though that episode was pre-taped last week.
Before the news was announced, Wyatt put up something on social media that might have been a clue that he was dropping out.

Five days before the first live show of the season, Wyatt posted on his Instagram account that he returned home to Park City, Utah. Considering the strict quarantine and testing protocols because of COVID-19, it’s possible that he wasn’t allowed to continue with the show after leaving Los Angeles.
“Something to feel this through: home. Thankful for the rollercoaster I’m on today. 💙,” Wyatt wrote on Instagram along with photos of the mountain range and the snowy roads.
We hope that everything is okay with Wyatt!
